Wedoany.com Report-May 30, Plug Power Inc., based in Latham, New York, reported that its hydrogen plant in Woodbine, Georgia, produced 300 metric tons of liquid hydrogen in April 2025, marking the facility’s highest monthly output and setting a new standard for the U.S. hydrogen industry. Opened in January 2024, the plant is the largest electrolytic liquid hydrogen production facility in the United States, utilizing Plug’s proprietary GenEco proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer technology. With a designed capacity of 15 tons per day, the site showcases the scalability and reliability of Plug’s integrated production model.
Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power, stated: “Plug’s Georgia plant is doing exactly what it was built to do—delivering real hydrogen at real scale using Plug technology. This isn’t a pilot or a promise. It’s commercial hydrogen production, with proven technology running 24/7 and making an impact today.” The facility’s performance highlights its role in meeting growing demand for clean hydrogen in the U.S.
The Woodbine plant is a key component of Plug’s expanding hydrogen production network, which includes operational facilities in Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana, with a combined capacity of 40 tons per day. This makes Plug the leading producer of liquid hydrogen in the United States. Jose Luis Crespo, Chief Revenue Officer at Plug Power, noted: “The performance in Georgia reinforces strong market demand for Plug’s GenEco electrolyzers. Producing and delivering hydrogen with our own technology strengthens customer value, improves margins, and supports long-term commercial growth.”
The hydrogen produced in Georgia supports major logistics and distribution customers, including Walmart, Amazon, and Home Depot, enabling them to reduce carbon emissions in their operations while relying on a consistent, domestically produced fuel supply. This contributes to sustainable industrial practices without affecting trade or consumption patterns, focusing on local decarbonization efforts.
The success of the Woodbine facility underscores Plug Power’s leadership in the hydrogen sector, demonstrating the viability of large-scale, cost-competitive hydrogen production. By leveraging its proprietary technology, Plug strengthens its position to meet the needs of industries transitioning to clean energy, fostering economic and environmental benefits in the United States.
