Wedoany.com Report-May 30, Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), the entity overseeing Poland’s national transportation upgrade, has opened a tender for a contractor to construct a 450,000-square-meter terminal for a new international airport located approximately 50 kilometers west of Warsaw. The project, designed by Foster + Partners and Buro Happold, is part of a broader initiative that includes highway improvements and 2,000 kilometers of high-speed rail, aiming to connect all major Polish cities to the airport within 2.5 hours.

The terminal, with an estimated cost of $1.25 billion (PLN 5 billion), is designed to initially handle 34 million passengers annually, with the capacity to expand to 44 million without disrupting operations. Contractors bidding for the project must demonstrate an annual turnover exceeding $1 billion for the past four years, experience in aviation infrastructure, and a Polish-speaking contract director, construction manager, and BIM coordinator. The bidding process will close on August 29, 2025, with the contract expected to be signed in 2026 and the airport set to open in 2032.

Filip Czernicki, CPK’s chief executive, stated: “This approach to procurement can offer Polish companies an opportunity to replicate a scenario similar to that seen in Spain, which, thanks to significant infrastructure investments partly funded by the EU, has built a strong construction sector.” The project is expected to stimulate Poland’s construction industry, create jobs, and enhance regional connectivity, supporting domestic travel and economic growth without affecting trade or consumption patterns.

The new airport and associated infrastructure aim to modernize Poland’s transportation network, positioning the country as a key hub in Central Europe. By integrating high-speed rail and highway upgrades, CPK seeks to improve accessibility and efficiency for passengers, fostering economic development across the region. The terminal’s scalable design ensures long-term adaptability to growing passenger demand, aligning with Poland’s vision for sustainable infrastructure.

The initiative reflects CPK’s commitment to leveraging local expertise and international standards to deliver a world-class transportation hub, contributing to Poland’s economic and social advancement.
