Australia Inland Rail Broadford Bridge Replacement Completes Delivery of 60-Meter Main Girders in July

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The replacement of the Marchbanks Road Bridge at Broadford on the Australian Inland Rail project has completed the delivery of the main bridge girders, a project designed to provide the necessary clearance for double-stacked container freight trains.

The new bridge girders were manufactured by Haywards in Tasmania and arrived at the project site in July. The girders will first be pre-assembled and then installed as four main beams, with more than 1,000 square meters of deck to be laid over the bridge structure.

The new bridge spans 60 meters, weighs approximately 600 tonnes, and stands about 3.7 meters higher and 11 meters wider than the existing structure. The bridge is supported by 89 driven piles and features 165 precast concrete components for the bridge walls and barriers.

Construction will continue between August and October, during which Marchbanks Road will be closed to demolish the existing bridge and install the new structure.

This replacement project is part of the Beveridge to Albury section of Inland Rail and, once completed, will meet the clearance requirements for double-stacked container freight train operations along the corridor.
