en.Wedoany.com Reported - Amtrak is seeking public input on a preliminary framework developed by management that aims to leverage the company's current record-breaking momentum to establish a strategic position for the growth of American rail over the next 50 years.

With ridership, revenue, and capital investment at historic highs, and more than $10 billion in new fleet investments underway, Amtrak's Board of Directors has initiated efforts to modernize and transform the company's structure, and is soliciting public feedback to continue refining the proposed structure and implementation approach.

Interim President Byl Herrmann stated that the management team developed this preliminary framework through extensive research and will continue to seek input to ensure the plan is well-rounded. The goal is to build a more accountable, efficient, and resilient Amtrak that delivers more passengers, more revenue, and the best customer service for the transportation industry.

Under the framework, Amtrak will retain its parent company status, responsible for governance, strategic direction, and coordination, while establishing three business divisions. The Passenger Services division will be responsible for providing safe and reliable service and improving the customer experience; the Infrastructure Management division will maintain and improve tracks, bridges, tunnels, and stations, overseeing more than $5 billion in annual infrastructure investments; and the Fleet Management division will manage more than $10 billion in new rolling stock and fleet modernization projects.

The proposed structure aims to enhance transparency in performance and costs, enable faster and smarter decision-making, and align authority with responsibility and results, ultimately creating a more accountable, focused, and agile company. According to the timeline, Amtrak will begin developing detailed design and implementation plans in September, submit a formal proposal to the Board of Directors in December, and the proposed new structure is planned to become operational in 2027.
