The two companies signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Friday during the International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (Madex) 2025, held in Busan, South Korea. This agreement focuses on ensuring that Hanwha Ocean's naval ship designs meet the rigorous certification standards required by major international navies.
A certification from a ship classification society, such as LR, verifies that a vessel complies with international regulations for design and construction. LR, recognized as one of the top three global classification societies, incorporates standards aligned with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's technical requirements.
Under the MOU, Hanwha Ocean will adopt LR’s shipbuilding standards starting from the initial design phase. The partnership also includes joint efforts in design reviews, regulatory compliance, quality control processes, and technical marketing initiatives targeting international naval clients and governments.
"Through this collaboration with LR, we aim to accelerate our entry into overseas naval markets, particularly in Europe," Hanwha Ocean stated.
This partnership marks a significant step for Hanwha Ocean as it seeks to strengthen the reliability and safety of its naval vessels, aligning with global standards to meet the demands of foreign markets.
