Wedoany.com Report-Dec.17, eBay has become a member of American Circular Textiles (ACT), joining over 30 entities comprising brands, resellers, recyclers, manufacturers, and additional participants.

eBay allows people globally to reuse products, cut waste, and generate economic activity.

This alliance seeks to heighten recognition and accessibility of previously owned clothing throughout the marketplace.

eBay chief sustainability officer Renee Morin said: "Our partnership with American Circular Textiles is a natural extension of our commitment to sustainable commerce and an important step toward accelerating the future of circular fashion."

Established in 1995, the platform facilitates connections between purchasers and vendors globally, promoting product reuse and contributing to diminished waste generation.

Findings from eBay's 2025 Recommerce Report reveal that more than half of respondents indicate acquiring second-hand items allows them to convey individual style preferences.

Within its environmental framework, eBay has launched various efforts in circular apparel, including the Circular Fashion Fund, which provides backing for emerging enterprises and developers focused on repair, resale, and recycling advancements.

During 2025, eBay also established an official collaboration as the pre-owned fashion associate for Condé Nast, offering platform users opportunities to acquire second-hand branded items featured in publications such as Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, Wired, Architectural Digest, Teen Vogue, and Glamour.

American Circular Textiles CEO and founder Rachel Kibbe commented: "30 years ago, eBay defined online buying and selling, which means it has had circularity built into its business model from day one. As a household name in the circular economy, we could not be more excited to welcome a voice as organic and influential as eBay to our ongoing efforts to advance the circular economy in the United States."

Formed in 2022, ACT operates as a coordination body for the country's circular apparel field. Its activities encompass involvement in international design forums, assistance for legislative groups on resale, support for regional producer responsibility frameworks, and guidance on proposed laws like the Americas Act.

If implemented, such measures would establish national encouragements for circular practices in apparel.

In October 2025, eBay entered a strategic association with Global Fashion Agenda, initiating joint work to advance the industry's shift toward circular models.

This membership enhances collective endeavors to promote extended product lifecycles through resale channels, aligning with broader objectives for resource efficiency in fashion.

By integrating a prominent online marketplace, ACT gains amplified reach to consumers accustomed to second-hand transactions.

eBay's longstanding facilitation of peer-to-peer exchanges inherently supports material circulation, reducing demand for newly produced goods.

Survey insights underscore personal motivations driving recommerce adoption, blending style expression with practical sustainability.

Funding mechanisms like the Circular Fashion Fund nurture technological and operational innovations essential for scaling repair and recycling.

Media partnerships expand visibility of pre-loved options, integrating them into mainstream fashion narratives across diverse titles.

ACT's policy engagements foster enabling environments, from international alignments to domestic incentives that encourage industry-wide participation.

Collaborative platforms like this unite varied stakeholders, creating synergies that accelerate infrastructure for collection, processing, and redistribution.

eBay's addition brings digital expertise and vast user base, complementing efforts by brands and specialists in physical recovery systems.

The alliance exemplifies multi-party cooperation aimed at embedding circular principles deeply within apparel ecosystems.

As consumer preferences evolve toward durable and reusable items, such initiatives provide structured pathways to meet demand responsibly.

Overall, eBay's involvement strengthens momentum for transitioning fashion toward models that prioritize longevity and renewed use over linear disposal.
