US ConnectDER Meter Collar Becomes Standard Component of SolarEdge Nexis

en.Wedoany.com Reported - ConnectDER has completed full integration of the IslandDER meter socket adapter with the SolarEdge Nexis home energy system, bringing the product to a field-ready stage and making it a standard component for SolarEdge Nexis installations requiring home backup power.

The SolarEdge Nexis IslandDER serves as the system's native microgrid interconnection device (MID), detecting grid outages, isolating the home from the grid, and activating backup power. Installers do not need to upgrade the main distribution panel, relocate circuits, or add a separate backup load panel or system controller.

ConnectDER President and CEO Ivo Steklac stated that eliminating barriers in renewable energy deployment is the company's mission, and this integration represents progress in that direction. By listing IslandDER as a standard component for Nexis installations requiring backup power, SolarEdge has become the first partner to embed this meter collar into its core system architecture, simplifying the installation process for whole-home backup power and making installations safer, faster, and more consistent. SolarEdge Vice President of Sales Nick Alex noted that energy storage has become central to home energy discussions, and the company is focused on reducing the time and complexity of each installation, with the IslandDER digital meter collar achieving this by reducing parts and labor involvement.

Rising consumer demand for whole-home backup power and energy affordability has left installers facing unpredictable engineering costs. In the western United States, meter-main distribution panel combination panels are common but lack space to accommodate a full set of backup power components. IslandDER integrates the microgrid interconnection device, current transformers (CTs), system sensing, and battery communication into a plug-and-play meter collar. Its SolarEdge Nexis custom model features an RJ45 Ethernet port, replacing hardwired analog communication cables with digital communication, allowing standard Cat5 or higher Ethernet cables to plug directly into the SolarEdge Nexis inverter, reducing wiring and creating a cleaner appearance.

Tate Abdon, installation director at California-based installer Senga Energy, said battery installations previously involved extensive planning and labor, including running load circuits, installing backup load panels, sometimes upgrading the main distribution panel, and accommodating location requirements such as door and window clearances. With SolarEdge Nexis and IslandDER, most projects no longer require relocating circuits or installing backup load panels, reducing labor, materials, and installation complexity, speeding up construction, reducing conduit usage and wall clutter, and delivering a more polished finished product.

SolarEdge Nexis is SolarEdge's next-generation residential solar and storage platform, combining inverter, battery storage, and energy management into a compact unit. The Simple-Click battery modules are stackable with no wiring between units; power output reaches up to 13 kW when grid-tied and up to 14.5 kW in backup mode; storage capacity expands from 5 kWh to 80 kWh; and 185 locked rotor amps (LRA) can start large appliances such as HVAC systems.

The SolarEdge Nexis and the SolarEdge Nexis IslandDER, manufactured by ConnectDER, are available through national distribution channels. In some regions, IslandDER has been approved for direct installation into existing sockets behind utility billing meters; where local utilities have not yet approved this, it can be installed into customer-owned standalone sockets, typically without utility involvement.
