en.Wedoany.com Reported - Construction of the new road underpass on Webster Street in Dandenong, Victoria, Australia, has entered its final stage, with the new connection expected to open to traffic by the end of September.
The underpass will establish a direct connection between Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street and Cheltenham and Hammond roads, improving east-west traffic conditions in Dandenong.
The construction team recently completed the largest concrete pour on the project to date, building a 42-meter-long base slab beneath the new rail bridge. The slab integrates the underpass drainage system, collecting and directing stormwater to a new underground pump station, which then discharges into Dandenong Creek.
The concrete pour was 23 meters wide and 1.2 meters deep, using more than 1,100 cubic meters of concrete, delivered by approximately 185 trucks.
The Webster Street underpass is part of the Webster Street Level Crossing Removal Project, which commenced following the removal of the last level crossing on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines last year.
Once completed, the new connection is expected to improve traffic flow, providing a direct route between Hammond and Cheltenham roads and the new signalized intersection at Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street. The underpass offers 5.4 meters of clearance beneath the rail bridge, allowing trucks and other high-clearance vehicles to bypass local streets and the Dandenong Central Business District.
