en.Wedoany.com Reported - In September 2026, National Highways unveiled a £30 million road improvement plan covering the A5, A483, and A458 trunk roads in the border region between England and Wales. The works involve resurfacing, drainage repairs and replacements, and updates to road markings and safety barriers. The project is scheduled to commence this year, with the A458 section from Shrewsbury to the Welsh border slated to begin construction in October.

The three roads form the "Shropshire Triangle" road network, connecting Shrewsbury, Oswestry, and the surrounding border areas. This plan includes repairing 26,500 meters of drainage, repainting 144,531 meters of road markings, replacing 8,688 reflective road studs and 160 meters of concrete barriers, and completing resurfacing works totaling 77 kilometers cumulatively across all carriageway lengths.

The construction window for the A458 section runs from autumn 2026 to spring 2027, with works including resurfacing, drainage upgrades, and the installation of high-friction anti-skid surfacing. National Highways has previously arranged surveys on the section between Churncote Roundabout and Rowton Avenue to prepare data for the forthcoming road and drainage works.

The A5 section from Chirk to Preston Roundabout will undergo updates to the road surface, drainage, traffic signals, signs, and markings, as well as the removal of trees affected by ash dieback disease. The A483 section from Oswestry to the Welsh border is planned for implementation between 2027 and 2028, covering resurfacing, concrete barrier repairs, drainage works, and road marking updates.

During construction, lane closures, road closures, and some weekend closures will be implemented as required by the works. Specific closure times and diversion routes will be published by National Highways via the project page.
