en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indonesia's Patimban Global Gateway Terminal (PGT) has put a Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbor crane into operation to support the start of container handling at the terminal, while the installation of permanent equipment is still ongoing.

The LHM 550 was delivered in a container-handling configuration to handle the first vessels arriving at the port during the initial phase of development. The equipment offers a flexible working range and high maneuverability, allowing it to adapt to berth layout adjustments as the project progresses.

The crane's design takes into account continuous operation in coastal environments, enabling the terminal to adjust its operational processes during the expansion phase and maintain uninterrupted loading and unloading operations.

The Patimban terminal is part of a strategic initiative east of Jakarta, aimed at supplementing the throughput capacity of Tanjung Priok Port, alleviating local logistics congestion, and strengthening Indonesia's port infrastructure.

The terminal's construction is being implemented in phases to advance infrastructure and equipment configuration. The early deployment of the LHM 550 enables the terminal to commence container services before all planned gantry cranes are in place. In the long term, this equipment will also help meet domestic market demand for container and general cargo transportation.

According to the development plan, the terminal will gradually build up a throughput capacity of millions of TEUs per year through multiple phases, with equipment added in batches from 2026 and in subsequent years.

Liebherr stated that the delivery includes advance training for operators and technical support during commissioning, as well as extended warranty and local service support. The manufacturer's global sales and service network will ensure the availability of spare parts and technical support to minimize downtime during the terminal's expansion.

Andreas Ritschel, Sales Director for Mobile Harbor Cranes at Liebherr-Rostock GmbH, said that projects like Patimban reflect close collaboration with customers, requiring coordination between equipment, delivery lead times, and long-term support, with the goal of providing solutions that remain effective throughout the terminal's development.
