en.Wedoany.com Reported - As of August 10, the cumulative water transfer of the eastern and middle routes of Phase I of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project has exceeded 90 billion cubic meters, with the middle route Phase I surpassing 80.05 billion cubic meters and the eastern route Phase I exceeding 9.95 billion cubic meters.
Since the beginning of this year, the cumulative water transfer volume of Phase I of the eastern and middle routes has successively crossed multiple milestones. The Ministry of Water Resources reported in January that the cumulative transfer volume exceeded 85 billion cubic meters, and by mid-May it had increased to over 88 billion cubic meters, covering 48 large and medium-sized cities along the routes and benefiting approximately 195 million people.
The middle route project accounts for the bulk of the increase in water transfer during this period. As of August 7, the cumulative water transfer of the middle route to the north had surpassed 80 billion cubic meters, covering 27 large and medium-sized cities and 243 county-level areas, benefiting nearly 118 million people. Three days later, the cumulative transfer volume of the middle route Phase I further exceeded 80.05 billion cubic meters.
The full-route water transfer operation of the eastern route Phase I for the 2025–2026 period was launched in January this year, with an annual plan to supply an additional 1.638 billion cubic meters of water to the receiving areas. The project had previously completed 12 annual water transfer tasks. Operating data released in May this year show that the water quality of the middle route has remained stable at Class II or above of surface water standards, while the eastern route has maintained stable water quality at Class III of surface water standards.
