The 180,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier GasLog Windsor transferred its cargo via ship-to-ship operation into the 138,000-cubic-meter floating storage unit Bilbao Knutsen, with the actual delivered volume undisclosed.
Prior to the arrival of the commercial cargo, the 7,500-cubic-meter small-scale LNG carrier Avenir Advantage had delivered a commissioning cargo several weeks earlier, primarily used to cool down the floating storage unit and receiving system. The cargo delivered by the large vessel will enter the subsequent gas supply process, making it Honduras's first commercial LNG import.
This LNG cargo was supplied by UK-based energy company Centrica. Centrica had previously signed a 15-year sale and purchase agreement with energy trader Exodus, planning to deliver approximately six LNG cargoes per year to Honduras starting in 2026, all transferred via ship-to-ship operations into the Bilbao Knutsen. The floating unit arrived in Honduras in September 2025 and will serve as the long-term storage facility for the local LNG receiving project.
After unloading, the natural gas will be transported through onshore facilities to the Brassavola gas-fired power plant. The plant currently has an installed capacity of 150 MW, with a combined-cycle expansion under construction that will increase total installed capacity to 240 MW upon completion. The first commercial LNG cargo will be used to advance the integration of gas supply and power generation systems, and the project company has not yet announced the official timeline for power delivery.
With the commercial cargo fully unloaded, Honduras has established an import supply chain comprising LNG carriers, floating storage units, onshore gas transmission facilities, and a gas-fired power plant. This marks the country's first use of imported natural gas for large-scale power generation, with subsequent supplies to arrive in batches under the long-term sale and purchase agreement.
