Indonesia's June 2026 Sulfur Imports Down 26% YoY, Sulfuric Acid Imports Up 150%

en.Wedoany.com Reported - According to the latest trade data from Indonesian Customs, Indonesia's sulfur and sulfuric acid import and export trends diverged in June 2026: sulfur imports declined year-on-year but rebounded month-on-month, while sulfuric acid imports surged significantly both year-on-year and month-on-month; sulfur exports increased sharply month-on-month, while sulfuric acid exports remained at zero.

In terms of sulfur imports, Indonesia's total sulfur imports (including natural sulfur and refined sulfur) in June amounted to approximately 334,700 metric tons, down 26% from 454,800 metric tons in the same period of 2025, and up 21% from 277,800 metric tons in May 2026. By receiving port: OBI Island received approximately 177,600 metric tons, imported from Canada, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan, China, making it the largest receiving hub; MOROWALI received approximately 76,400 metric tons, with supply sources from Canada, Malaysia, and Singapore; TANJUNG PERAK received approximately 19,300 metric tons, mainly from South Korea, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States; TANJUNG PRIOK received approximately 9,927 metric tons, mainly from China, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam; FUTONG TERMINAL received approximately 8,003 metric tons, all from Vietnam; MERAK received approximately 2,450 metric tons, all from Japan; BELAWAN received approximately 397 metric tons, mainly from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, and Turkey.

By country of origin, Canada was the largest supplier in June, at approximately 132,000 metric tons; Saudi Arabia ranked second at approximately 108,670 metric tons; followed by Kazakhstan at approximately 39,944 metric tons, Singapore at approximately 10,701 metric tons, Malaysia at approximately 10,768 metric tons, Taiwan, China at approximately 10,051 metric tons, Japan at approximately 8,869 metric tons, Vietnam at approximately 8,013 metric tons, South Korea at approximately 3,575 metric tons, and the Philippines at approximately 2,100 metric tons. China's sulfur exports to Indonesia in the month were only approximately 257 metric tons, contracting sharply from the previous several months.

In terms of sulfuric acid imports, Indonesia's sulfuric acid (concentration >80%) imports in June reached approximately 111,200 metric tons, up 150% from 44,500 metric tons in the same period of 2025, and up 101% from 55,300 metric tons in May 2026, with imports mainly flowing to nickel smelting project hubs. By receiving port: OBI Island received approximately 47,300 metric tons, mainly from Japan and South Korea; WEDA received approximately 42,900 metric tons, mainly from China and South Korea; GRESIK received approximately 10,500 metric tons, all from Japan; LHOK SEUMAWE received approximately 10,500 metric tons, all from Japan; TANJUNG PRIOK received approximately 1 metric ton. By country of origin, South Korea was the largest supplier in the month, at approximately 52,900 metric tons; Japan followed at approximately 39,300 metric tons, and China at approximately 19,000 metric tons.

In terms of sulfur exports, Indonesia's sulfur exports in June reached approximately 54,800 metric tons, a significant increase from 1 metric ton in the same period of 2025 and 24 metric tons in May 2026. Malaysia was the largest destination, receiving approximately 44,000 metric tons, accounting for about 80% of total exports; China was the second-largest destination, receiving approximately 10,500 metric tons, accounting for about 19%; a small amount of refined sulfur was also shipped to Timor-Leste (285 metric tons) and Germany (6.12 metric tons). In addition, Indonesia's sulfuric acid exports were zero in June, consistent with the trend in the same period of 2025 and May 2026.
