Baker Hughes: Total US and Canada rig count rises to 812 in week ended Aug 14

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Data released by Baker Hughes Inc. shows that for the week ended August 14, the total rig count in North America increased by 8 rigs to 812, with both oil- and gas-directed rigs in the US and Canada posting gains of similar magnitude.

The US had 593 active rigs for the week, up 5 rigs from the previous week and up 54 rigs from the same period last year. Among them, gas-directed rigs increased by 4 to 128; oil-directed rigs increased by 1 to 455, up 43 rigs year over year.

By operating area, US land rigs totaled 578, up 6 rigs from the previous week; inland water rigs increased by 1 to 3, offsetting the decline of 2 offshore rigs to 12. Rig count in the Gulf of Mexico decreased by 2 rigs for the week.

Among major US oil- and gas-producing states, three states saw rig count increases. New Mexico added 2 rigs to reach 99 active, up 4 rigs from the same period last year. Texas added 2 rigs to reach 277 running, up 35 rigs from the same period in 2025. Oklahoma's rig count increased by 1 to 51. Utah's rig count decreased by 1, closing the week with 13 rigs running.

Canada's total rig count increased by 3 for the week to 219 active, up 36 rigs from the same period last year. Of these, 151 were drilling for oil, up 5 rigs from the previous week; gas-directed rigs held steady at 65; unclassified rigs decreased by 2 to 3.
