en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 15, Nvidia is reportedly in talks with SB Energy, a SoftBank Group subsidiary, over a potential investment of up to $3 billion, tied to an OpenAI large-scale data center project being developed by SB Energy in Ohio, U.S. The parties are still in discussions, and no formal investment agreement has been announced or signed.

Under the deal structure being discussed, Nvidia could invest approximately $1.5 billion upon the signing of the Ohio data center agreement, with the remaining funds tied to SB Energy's planned initial public offering. SB Energy is reportedly expected to launch its IPO as early as September 2026, targeting a raise of at least $5 billion.

This potential investment is one of several negotiations involving Nvidia, OpenAI, and SB Energy regarding the financing arrangements for the Ohio data center. The discussions also include Nvidia providing approximately $100 billion in credit support for the project, though the scale and implementation conditions of such support have yet to be finalized.

SB Energy is developing the PORTS Technology Campus in Ohio, with a planned capacity of 10 gigawatts, currently in the early construction phase. The U.S. Department of Energy has disclosed that the project's energy package includes 9.2 gigawatts of new natural gas power generation capacity; SB Energy and AEP Ohio also plan to invest $4.2 billion to build and upgrade 765-kilovolt transmission lines and four substations in southern Ohio.
