en.Wedoany.com Reported - Transurban is working with the Queensland Government to progress the upgrade of the western section of the Logan Motorway, a stretch of approximately 10 kilometres located between the Ipswich Motorway and the Mount Lindesay Highway.

The proposed works will add an additional lane in each direction between the Centenary Motorway and the Mount Lindesay Highway, upgrade key interchanges including Formation Street, and deploy smart motorway technology.

The Logan Motorway is a critical freight corridor in South East Queensland, carrying more than $1 billion in freight value daily and providing access to Brisbane Airport and the Port of Brisbane. According to statistics, the motorway records approximately 210,000 trips per day. Transurban notes that increasing congestion is having a significant impact on productivity and road safety.

The current scope of the project includes: adding an additional lane in each direction on the Logan Motorway between the Centenary Motorway and the Mount Lindesay Highway, plus an additional westbound lane between Boundary Road and Formation Street; upgrading the Formation Street interchange to accommodate the growing demands of the community and industrial hub; installing new smart motorway technology; and enhancing the vertical clearance on the Logan Motorway to allow oversized vehicles to pass.

Upon completion, travel times during peak periods are expected to be reduced by up to 20 minutes by 2031, while removing approximately 6,100 vehicles from local streets. Community consultation for the project was completed in the second half of 2024, the reference design was released to the public in August 2026, and detailed design plans are expected to be announced between early and mid-2027.

Following the completion of planning work, the Queensland Government will consider the proposal, and Transurban will consult with the government to determine an appropriate funding model. Once approved, construction is expected to be completed before the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.
