Ramaco Resources and Indium Corporation Sign Non-Binding Gallium and Germanium Memorandum of Understanding
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Ramaco Resources, Inc. announced on August 18, 2026, that it has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Indium Corporation to negotiate potential gallium and germanium supply arrangements related to the rare earth and critical minerals exploration project at the Brook Mine in Wyoming.
Indium Corporation, headquartered in Clinton, New York, supplies advanced electronic materials and specialty metals to the semiconductor, electronics, aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing industries, with expertise in refining, purification, alloy development, and high-performance materials manufacturing. Its gallium-based and germanium-based products are used in the semiconductor value chain. The company also manufactures and supplies electronic assembly materials, including semiconductor packaging materials, thermal interface materials, solder products, and specialty metals. Under the terms of the MOU, the parties will negotiate potential arrangements for the supply of gallium and germanium from the Brook Mine project. The MOU is non-binding, and any future supply or offtake arrangements would be subject to the completion of due diligence, the negotiation and execution of definitive agreements, the successful development of the Brook Mine project, and other applicable conditions.
Randall Atkins, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ramaco Resources, stated that Indium Corporation brings decades of experience supplying advanced electronic materials to the global semiconductor industry, and that this memorandum demonstrates the opportunity to bring gallium and germanium from the Brook Mine into established U.S. domestic and allied supply chains. He noted that by combining Ramaco's potential domestic resource base with Indium Corporation's established position in global materials expertise and advanced technology manufacturing, this proposed collaboration has the potential to strengthen and diversify the supply of materials increasingly critical to U.S. electronics, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing industries. Ross Berntson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Indium Corporation, stated that gallium and germanium play important roles in numerous advanced technologies, and that this memorandum provides an opportunity to explore the complementarity between Indium Corporation's materials science capabilities and potential U.S. sources of gallium and germanium, as well as to support the resilience and diversification of supply chains for the industries it serves.
Ramaco Resources is primarily engaged in the mining and development of high-quality, low-cost metallurgical coal in southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia, and conducts exploration of coal, rare earth, and other critical minerals projects in Wyoming. The company's executive offices are located in Lexington, Kentucky, with operating offices in Charleston, West Virginia, and Sheridan, Wyoming. The company currently operates four active metallurgical coal mining complexes in Central Appalachia and owns a coal mine near Sheridan, Wyoming, along with rare earth element and other critical minerals exploration-stage assets, namely the Brook Mine. The Brook Mine remains in the exploration stage, and the company has stated that it cannot guarantee that it will be successfully developed into a commercial-scale mine, nor that its inferred mineral resources will be converted into mineral resources with higher confidence or ultimately into mineral reserves. A carbon research facility adjacent to the Brook Mine is studying the potential feasibility of producing advanced carbon products and materials from coal as a feedstock, and the company holds more than 70 intellectual property patents, pending applications, exclusive license agreements, and multiple trademarks.
Indium Corporation was founded in 1934 and supplies materials to global electronics, semiconductor, thin-film, and thermal management markets, including solders and fluxes, brazing materials, thermal interface materials, sputtering targets, indium, gallium, germanium, tin metals, and inorganic compounds, as well as NanoFoil®. The company has technical support and manufacturing facilities in China, Germany, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
