en.Wedoany.com Reported - As operator of the Z-61, Z-62, and Z-63 blocks in the Trujillo Basin (Cuenca Trujillo), Anadarko Perú has informed Perupetro of its decision to advance to the third exploration period, which includes drilling its first well in the Z-62 block. This decision confirms the continuation of the company's deepwater exploration project off the coasts of La Libertad and Lambayeque in northern Peru.

The decision to enter the third exploration period is based on the marine 3D seismic survey conducted by Anadarko Perú in 2024, which covered an area of 6,018 square kilometers and represents the largest acquisition campaign of its kind in the history of the Pacific coast.

Seismic acquisition is a key method in oil and gas exploration, used to determine the geological structural characteristics beneath the seabed in order to identify potential hydrocarbon prospects in the area.

Drilling of the first exploration well is expected to take place in 2027. Its results will be crucial for validating the hydrocarbon potential identified by the marine seismic studies, which cost approximately $40 million.

The Trujillo Basin holds significant undiscovered potential. If exploration in the basin progresses successfully, Peru could see a major discovery that would change its oil and gas trade deficit situation.
