en.Wedoany.com Reported - Ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air is adjusting its U.S. route network. Its flight schedule from August 2026 to April 2027 shows 7 airports being removed, with no new airports added for now; earlier this year, Allegiant added 5 destination airports. For carriers of this type, route and airport additions and removals are common in the industry, but typically additions outnumber removals—this adjustment runs in the opposite direction.

By passenger volume, Allegiant Air is the eighth-largest airline in the United States. According to data from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), in the 12 months ending May 2026, this ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) transported nearly 19 million domestic round-trip passengers, holding a 2% share of the vast market.

According to the flight schedule Allegiant filed with aviation data agency OAG, between August 2026 and April 2027, the airline plans to serve 123 airports, all within the United States, spread across 42 states. The schedule reflects the situation as of August 20 and is subject to change. Florida accounts for 65% of Allegiant's total operations, higher than Breeze Airways' 58%; 12 airports in the state operate Allegiant flights, the most of any state. New York follows with 7 airports, California has 6, and Montana and Tennessee each have 5.

Comparing Allegiant's route network from January 2025 to July 2026 with the plan for August 2026 to April 2027, a total of 7 airports have been removed, with no airports added or restored so far.

Based on routes with four or more departures, the removed airports include: Minneapolis, Minnesota (served since 2021, 7 routes, ended August 2025); Norfolk, Virginia (served since 2017, 10 routes, ended August 2025); San Diego, California (served since 2008, 17 routes, ended September 2025); Los Angeles, California (served since 2009, 42 routes, ended January 2026); Columbia, South Carolina (served since 2006, 3 routes, ended May 2026); Oakland, California (served since 2009, 18 routes, ended May 2026); and Palm Springs, California (served since 2005, 10 routes, ended May 2026).

Five of the 7 removed airports are in California, causing a notable decline in Allegiant's capacity in the state. Departures in August 2026 are 26% lower than in the same month in 2025. By flight volume, California has dropped from eighth to thirteenth among states where Allegiant operates, and its flight volume is now lower than South Carolina's, which has lost its state capital, Columbia, as a destination. Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) presents a unique case: Allegiant last operated there 12 months ago, and the airline is merging with Sun Country, which is headquartered at MSP. If the operational landscape does not change materially, MSP would become the largest airport for the merged carrier based on August departure volumes.

Earlier in 2026, Allegiant added 5 airports as destinations: Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) in California (February 2026), Columbia, Missouri (June 2026), La Crosse, Wisconsin (February 2026), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (May 2026), and Trenton, New Jersey (February 2026). However, the schedule from August 2026 to April 2027 includes no flights to any newly added or restored airports.

Among the added airports, Allegiant shifted Los Angeles-area service from the costlier and more congested Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR). BUR supplements Allegiant's routes at John Wayne Airport (SNA), which the airline has operated in the Los Angeles Basin market since 2021, and currently offers four routes: Bellingham, Des Moines, Indianapolis, and Provo. All four cities previously had flights from LAX, with Bellingham (located between Seattle and Vancouver) last served in January 2026; Des Moines and Provo also have flights from SNA.
