en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched a series of hybrid-electric demonstration flights to test route connections between smaller airports and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The demonstration is being conducted by Electra in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), as part of the FAA's "eVTOL Integration Pilot Programme" (eIPP).

The demonstration routes fly from Manassas, Virginia, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with stops at Washington Manassas Airport, Millville Executive Airport in New Jersey, Atlantic City Bader Field, Northeast Philadelphia Airport, and Philadelphia International Airport. These flights are part of the US Department of Transportation's efforts to evaluate how advanced air mobility aircraft can safely integrate into the National Airspace System.

US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy stated that each new test flight provides the Department with the data needed to achieve the safe deployment of next-generation aircraft. He acknowledged the continued progress of the Trump Administration's first eVTOL pilot programme and looks forward to more American innovators transforming how people and goods are transported.

The eIPP was established under the Trump Administration's "Unleashing Drone Dominance" executive order, providing a framework for real-world testing of advanced aircraft and their integration with existing aviation infrastructure. In March 2026, the US Department of Transportation selected eight eIPP projects covering 26 states, with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation among the selected participants.

The FAA will use the demonstration data to identify gaps, improve procedures, and support the integration of advanced air mobility aircraft into the National Airspace System. PennDOT and other eIPP participants plan to conduct additional test flights throughout the remainder of 2026.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll stated that PennDOT's mission is to help people reach their destinations, regardless of the mode of travel they choose. The innovative technology showcased this week has the potential to make air travel more accessible and closer to communities. PennDOT is proud to lead this cross-state collaboration, working together with the FAA and state partners.
