en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 20, during Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon's inspection of construction progress at the Rogun Hydropower Plant, the project team confirmed that the dam's fill surface had reached an elevation of 1,155 meters above sea level ahead of schedule. The 1,155-meter figure refers to the elevation above sea level at the dam site, corresponding to a constructed dam height of approximately 190 meters, not the dam's own height.

The Rogun Dam features a clay-core rockfill structure with a designed height of 335 meters. The dam base is approximately 1,800 meters wide, the crest is 20 meters wide, and the total planned fill volume is approximately 79 million cubic meters. Since the start of construction, cumulative fill volume has exceeded 49 million cubic meters, representing more than 61% of the designed total, with over 8 million cubic meters completed in 2026 alone.

With the dam raised to its current elevation, the reservoir is scheduled to be filled to an elevation of 1,140 meters by early September, approximately 40 meters higher than the previous water level. The rising water level will increase the operating head and usable storage capacity, boosting the output of the two already operational generating units. The Rogun Hydropower Plant is being implemented in phases, with power generation proceeding alongside construction, while the remaining dam sections, permanent units, and auxiliary facilities are still under construction.

Webuild is responsible for Package II of the project, valued at approximately USD 2.3 billion, covering dam fill, foundation reinforcement, grouting galleries, and the anti-seepage curtain. The dam's core foundation has completed approximately 293,400 cubic meters of roller-compacted concrete, with foundation reinforcement grouting carried out through 3,359 boreholes; 125 boreholes have been drilled for the anti-seepage curtain, ranging from 44 to 149 meters in depth. The dam site currently operates on two continuous shifts per day, with over 160 pieces of construction equipment deployed daily.

The Rogun Hydropower Plant consists of six 600 MW turbine-generator units, with a total installed capacity of 3,600 MW once fully operational, and a planned annual power generation of approximately 17 billion kWh. The project owner is Rogun HPP Open Joint-Stock Company, with financing from international financial institutions including the World Bank, whose cumulative financing for the project has reached USD 650 million.

Under the next phase of construction, the project plans to raise the dam fill to an elevation of 1,185 meters by 2027 and increase the reservoir water level to no less than 1,165 meters. Rogun HPP will also advance the installation and commissioning of the fourth unit's equipment with Voith Hydro, targeting commercial operation by September 2027.
