en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 21, Singapore's Economic Development Board and Infocomm Media Development Authority completed the second round of data center application selection, provisionally allocating 50MW of new capacity to Digital Realty. Digital Realty confirmed on August 25 that it plans to use this allocation to develop its fourth data center in Singapore at the Jurong Island Low-Carbon Data Center Campus.

More than 20 proposals competed in this round, with Digital Realty, Equinix, Keppel Data Centres, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres each receiving a provisional allocation of 50MW, totaling 200MW. Selected facilities must source over 50% of their capacity from green energy and adopt liquid cooling and high-efficiency IT equipment to meet the requirements of Singapore's Green Mark Platinum certification for data centers.

The fourth data center is planned to deploy infrastructure for AI inference, high-performance computing, and enterprise data processing, and will connect to Digital Realty's existing Singapore interconnection platform. The company currently operates three local data centers in the Jurong East and Loyang areas, with a combined capacity of approximately 84MW. If the new facility is commissioned at 50MW, its total data center capacity in Singapore will increase to approximately 134MW, representing a growth of nearly 60%.

The campus where the new facility will be located is developed by JTC, with a planned site area of approximately 20 hectares and a long-term capacity of up to 700MW for data centers. The campus will leverage Jurong Island's existing utilities, shared energy storage facilities, and low-carbon energy conditions to configure power and cooling systems for high-density computing facilities.

Digital Realty's existing Singapore data centers already achieve renewable energy coverage through a retail electricity agreement with Tuas Power. The company previously raised the chilled water operating temperature by 2 degrees Celsius in two data halls, resulting in an overall energy consumption reduction of approximately 2% to 3% during the trial period; the building management system can monitor over 30,000 infrastructure points in real time. The new project remains in the provisional capacity allocation and development preparation stage, with investment amount, construction start date, and commissioning timeline yet to be determined.
