Two Giant FPSOs (P-80 and P-82) to Set Sail for Brazil in Succession
en.Wedoany.com Reported - August 27 news, Singapore-headquartered offshore and marine engineering company Seatrium is about to achieve what it calls an "industry first"—two giant Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSOs) will depart from its Singapore shipyard for Brazil within weeks to operate for the country's state-owned energy giant, Petrobras.

Seatrium has announced the imminent departure of FPSOs P-80 and P-82, marking another significant milestone in its long-term partnership with Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras). The naming ceremonies for the two FPSOs were held at the company's Tuas Avenue shipyard. It is reported that these two FPSOs are among the largest units of their kind ever built, with production capacity expected to boost Brazil's national oil output by 10%.
Seatrium CEO Chris Ong stated: "Over the past three decades, we have grown alongside Petrobras's needs, supporting its ambition to become a global energy leader. The successive delivery of P-80 and P-82 within a short timeframe is a key reflection of this growth journey. We will leverage the lessons learned to prepare for the robust execution of the remaining three P-series FPSOs at our facilities."

P-80 and P-82 are the 47th and 48th projects undertaken by the Singaporean company for Petrobras, with the partnership spanning over three decades. Following the departure of P-78 in 2025, these two vessels are also the second and third of the P-series turnkey FPSOs commissioned by Petrobras.
The two vessels are set to sail to the Búzios field in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, Brazil—one of the world's largest deepwater oil fields and one of Brazil's most important oil-producing assets. P-80 and P-82 will become the ninth and tenth FPSOs to commence production at the field, respectively.
Chris Ong added: "We are now fully focused on offshore commissioning, striving to replicate the success of P-78, which set the record for the fastest first oil and gas production. We value the close partnership and trust built with Petrobras and hope to continue creating new possibilities together."
Each FPSO is designed with a daily crude oil processing capacity of 225,000 barrels (bopd) and a daily gas processing capacity of 12 million cubic meters, placing them among the largest FPSOs in the world. Once P-80 and P-82 come on stream, they are expected to add 450,000 barrels per day of capacity to the Búzios field, representing an increase of approximately 34% over the field's current installed production capacity.
Petrobras President Magda Chambriard emphasized: "Beyond the oil they will produce, these platforms will also bring back to Brazil the fruits of the strong collaboration between Petrobras and Seatrium, and between Brazil and Singapore—they further demonstrate the rich outcomes of this partnership."
"P-80 will operate at the Búzios field in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. It is a giant platform for our giant field. Búzios is Brazil's largest field by reserves and production, with daily output already exceeding 1.2 million barrels."
Each vessel has a water injection capacity of approximately 250,000 barrels per day and a storage capacity of approximately 2.5 million barrels, further cementing their status as high-capacity production assets for Brazil's prolific oil fields.
As part of Petrobras's new generation of high-capacity production facilities, P-80 and P-82 incorporate technologies designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions, including carbon capture and reinjection capabilities, energy recovery systems, and other technologies supporting more sustainable offshore production.
Magda Chambriard continued: "P-82 will subsequently also sail to Búzios. As planned, both vessels will come on stream next year, adding 450,000 barrels per day to the Búzios field's daily output."
