176 km/h! China Communications Construction's Malaysia East Coast Rail Link Project Comprehensive Inspection Train Speed-Up Test Succeeds
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 29, during the speed-up test of the comprehensive inspection train on the Malaysia East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, operated by China Communications Construction (CCCC), the train successfully reached a running speed of 176 km/h between the starting point, Kota Bharu Station, and Sultan Ahmad Shah City Station, achieving a 10% increase over the design speed of 160 km/h.

The step-by-step speed increase test is a critical component of dynamic inspection. The comprehensive inspection train must progressively increase its running speed until it reaches 110% of the line's design speed, thoroughly verifying the safety performance, operational stability, and system compatibility of track, power supply, signaling, and communication equipment under high-speed conditions.
Achieving a running speed of 176 km/h marks the successful completion of the highest test speed level, 110% of the design speed, for Phase 1 of the ECRL project. This validates the safety and reliability of the line and all train operation equipment systems within the design speed margin.
During the speed-up test, the comprehensive inspection train simultaneously conducted comprehensive dynamic inspections of freight car dynamics, passenger car dynamics, overhead contact systems, trackside signaling equipment, wireless communication coverage, and infrastructure including bridges, tunnels, and trackbeds. Next, the project will conduct Automatic Train Protection (ATP) type tests and comprehensive signaling system function tests to further verify the safety, reliability, and compatibility of the Chinese Train Control System Level 2 (CTCS-2) under various operating scenarios.
Officials including Syed, Director of the Railway Planning Division of Malaysia's Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), Azlan, Project Director of Malaysia Rail Link (MRL), Jeffrey, Deputy Project Director, Deng Bo, General Manager of the CCCC ECRL Project, Kong Qi, Senior Advisor, and Yang Shengsheng, Deputy General Manager, rode aboard the comprehensive inspection train, jointly witnessing the significant moment when the train reached a running speed of 176 km/h.
