Bengaluru Metro Blue Line Full Opening Delayed to March 2028

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The full opening of Bengaluru Metro's Blue Line has been postponed from the original December 2027 to March 2028, meaning the direct metro connection to Kempegowda International Airport will be delayed. The 58.19-kilometer corridor, which passes through KR Puram and Hebbal and connects Silk Board Junction with the airport, had a previously set target of December 2027. Under the revised schedule, the entire line still awaits completion, though certain sections may open earlier.

Phased targets have been set for various sections of the Blue Line. The Silk Board to KR Puram section, spanning 19.75 kilometers, is scheduled for trial runs in October; the Iblur to Silk Board section is slated for trial runs between December and January. Construction delays at Marathahalli and Silk Board have impacted the overall progress, with the Silk Board station requiring an approximately 413.8-meter metro viaduct extension above the existing elevated road to facilitate train turnaround. The KR Puram to Nagawara section is expected to open by mid-2027, while the Nagawara to Hebbal airport section is planned to be operational in September or October 2027.

The Pink Line will be opened in phases. The Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere section on Bannerghatta Road, a 7.5-kilometer elevated stretch, is expected to open in September, with related finishing works to be completed by the end of August; however, train operations still require approval from the railway authorities within the next 10 days. The 13.75-kilometer underground section between Tavarekere and Nagawara is scheduled to open in March 2027, and a trial run application from Jayadeva Hospital to MG Road has been submitted for September.

Hebbal station has become a critical node affecting the construction timeline. The station will serve as an interchange for the proposed Orange Line and requires four elevated metro tracks, necessitating complex clearance work along the Outer Ring Road. Additionally, delays have emerged in certain sections of the Yelahanka IAF to airport terminal route, with contractors requesting an extension of the completion deadline to March 2027. The total project cost is estimated at ₹120 billion, and authorities have set the full opening target for the Blue Line as March 2028, with some sections expected to open earlier in 2027.
