Singapore Airlines Cuts A380 Flights by 13%, Cancels Dubai and Hong Kong Deployments for 2027

The 471-seat double-decker aircraft had long served the Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) route and was previously planned for deployment on the Changi to Dubai International Airport (DXB) route.

Airlines worldwide submit schedule changes weekly to flight planning data platforms such as OAG and Cirium Diio, including new routes, market cancellations, frequency and capacity adjustments, aircraft substitutions, and operational period changes. In this update, Singapore Airlines' Dubai route saw the most significant changes. The Star Alliance member announced in February 2026 that it would deploy the A380 on this route to the Middle East's busiest airport from late March; a month later, the A380 deployment was postponed to May, then further delayed to October, with the aircraft type expected to serve the route only by late March 2027. The latest schedule shows the A380 has been completely removed from the Dubai route. Due to the ongoing war in Iran, the Dubai route is currently suspended, with flights scheduled to resume on October 25, 2026, using the 303-seat Airbus A350-900; the 264-seat Boeing 777-300ER with first class is planned to operate summer flights from March 28, 2027.

According to the April 2027 schedule, Singapore Changi to Dubai operates daily. The Singapore-to-Dubai direction, SQ494 (14:40–18:00 local time), and the Dubai-to-Singapore direction, SQ495 (19:45–07:30+1 local time), were originally slated for A380 service but have now both been switched to the 777-300ER.

The A380 has operated the Singapore-to-Hong Kong route for many years. The aircraft type first entered service on this route in 2009, operating nearly daily year-round thereafter, reaching twice daily in October 2016. The route covers a one-way distance of 1,379 nautical miles (2,554 kilometers), and in 2025 and 2026, the A380 operated on this route for only two months each year—June and July in 2026.

The latest schedule shows Singapore Airlines has canceled all future A380 flights to Hong Kong. The aircraft type was originally planned for deployment in June and July 2027, with some considerations possibly related to school holidays, but this arrangement has now been withdrawn. In 2027, Emirates will be the only A380 operator on the Hong Kong route.

According to the July 2027 schedule, Singapore Changi to Hong Kong operates five daily flights, served by SQ874 (07:25–11:20, A350-900), SQ882 (08:40–12:40, A350-900), SQ892 (09:50–13:55, changed from A380 to 777-300ER), SQ894 (13:05–17:05, A350-900), and SQ898 (19:00–23:00, 787-10); the Hong Kong-to-Singapore direction also operates five daily flights, served by SQ899 (09:05–12:55, 787-10), SQ875 (12:35–16:30, A350-900), SQ883 (14:25–18:20, A350-900), SQ893 (15:40–19:25, changed from A380 to 777-300ER), and SQ895 (18:50–22:40, A350-900).

From April to July 2027, Singapore Airlines plans to operate the A380 on six routes departing from Changi, including Delhi (daily until June 19, resuming July 25), Frankfurt (daily), London Heathrow (twice daily), Mumbai (daily until July 24), Shanghai Pudong (daily, only from June 20 to July 24), and Sydney (twice daily). These arrangements are based on the latest plans as of August 31 and remain subject to change. A380 flights to Auckland and Melbourne are expected to operate only during the Northern Hemisphere winter season.

Prior to the most recent update, Singapore Airlines had planned 969 A380 flights between April and July 2027; after canceling the Dubai and Hong Kong deployments, the number of flights decreases by 13% to 847. By flight count, Singapore Airlines will drop from third to fourth place among global A380 operators. These plans may still change again.
