en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 2, China's first batch of imported Peruvian fresh bananas passed inspection and entered the country after being examined and supervised by Yangshan Customs under Shanghai Customs. The batch, totaling 19.6 tons, was transported from Peru to Shanghai via the "Chancay–Shanghai" shipping route, marking the first import of Peruvian fresh bananas following their quarantine access approval in China.

In December 2025, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 234 of 2025, permitting the import of Peruvian fresh bananas that meet relevant quarantine requirements. According to the announcement, banana orchards and packaging facilities exporting to China must be officially approved by Peru and registered with the GACC; upon import, documents such as the Phytosanitary Certificate for Entry and the Plant Quarantine Certificate must also be verified.

This shipment was transported via the "Chancay–Shanghai" shipping route. Since its launch at the end of 2024, as of September 1, 2026, Shanghai Customs has supervised a cumulative total of 355,000 tons of import and export cargo on this route, valued at 9.87 billion yuan, with the variety of transported goods increasing from 34 types at the route's inception to 75 types. The route has shortened the maritime shipping time from Peru to Shanghai from the original 35 to 40 days to approximately 23 days.

Currently, Peruvian fresh fruits such as blueberries, avocados, grapes, and bananas have obtained quarantine access approval in China. In the first seven months of 2026, Shanghai port imported a cumulative total of 41,000 tons of Peruvian fruits, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%, accounting for 87.2% of China's total Peruvian fruit imports during the same period; over the same period, the cumulative import and export value on the "Chancay–Shanghai" shipping route reached 3.35 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 44.7%.
