Wedoany.com Report-Jun 18, Kansas-based architectural firm Populous, in collaboration with Malaysia’s Hijjas Architects + Planners, has revealed the design for the new Shah Alam Sports Complex in Selangor, Malaysia. The project will replace the 25-year-old Shah Alam Stadium with a modern 45,000-capacity stadium that blends contemporary design with traditional Malaysian elements.

The new stadium retains the original’s iconic silhouette and curved roof while meeting FIFA standards for international football. It features a fixed roof with double-layered ETFE cushions to allow natural light and a sliding pitch that can move along the stadium’s length, enabling the venue to host various sports events and concerts. The design ensures versatility and functionality for diverse community activities.

The stadium will be part of a 310,000-square-meter garden complex, incorporating a multi-purpose hall, training facilities, and cultural spaces. The existing Shah Alam Stadium will be demolished, with the new complex scheduled to open in 2029. The development aims to create a vibrant hub for sports, recreation, and community engagement in Selangor.
