Tata Power Commissions 162 Circuit Kilometers of Transmission Lines and 1000 MVA Substation in India

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tata Power has commissioned the second component of the Jalpura-Khurja transmission project in Uttar Pradesh, India, adding 162 circuit kilometers (CKM) of 400kV lines and a 1,000 megavolt-ampere (MVA) substation.

The project is being executed by TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission (TPJKPTL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power. This commissioning includes a 400kV double-circuit line from Khurja to Jalpura, comprising two circuits of approximately 81 kilometers each, along with a 400/220kV gas-insulated substation at Jalpura with a transformation capacity of 1,000MVA.

Khurja is a key power node in western Uttar Pradesh, playing a strategic role in transmitting electricity to Noida and the broader National Capital Region (NCR). The new corridor establishes a high-voltage link between the two locations, while the Jalpura substation will serve as a gateway, stepping down power from the 400kV grid to the 220kV network.

Tata Power stated that the new facilities will help meet the growing electricity demand in the NCR and western Uttar Pradesh, and are expected to enhance the reliability, resilience, and efficiency of the regional transmission system. The company said these assets will support the next phase of growth in the aforementioned regions and contribute to the broader development of a robust and future-ready national grid. Tata Power added that the project reinforces its capability to develop large-scale critical power infrastructure and strengthens its commitment to supporting India's transition toward a more reliable and resilient transmission network.

Tata Power's total transmission line length in India now aggregates to 7,900CKM, including both commissioned and under-construction lines. This latest milestone follows Tata Power's announcement in March 2026 of commissioning two additional Uttar Pradesh lines, namely the 400kV Tanda–Gonda and 400kV Gonda–Basti double-circuit lines, totaling 154CKM.

These developments complete the construction of all extra-high-voltage (EHV) transmission lines and substations under the South East UP Power Transmission Company project. The resulting network includes three 765kV lines totaling 951CKM; fourteen 400kV lines totaling 566CKM; and three 765/400kV substations with a combined transformation capacity of 3.46 gigavolt-amperes (GV-amperes) across the state.

Additionally, Tata Power reported in June that REC Power Development and Consultancy, a wholly owned subsidiary of REC, had issued a letter of intent to the company regarding the acquisition of the Ryapte Power Transmission project in Karnataka.
