German SAL receives two Liebherr 800-ton ship cranes

en.Wedoany.com Reported - German maritime company SAL (part of the Harren Group) has taken delivery of two Liebherr LS 800 E 800-ton all-electric ship cranes, installed on board the "MV Patricia," the third vessel in the Orca-class newbuild project.

The LS 800 E model, launched in 2022, helps reduce the vessel's overall emissions. The two cranes can handle loads of up to 1,600 tons in tandem lift operations; their "Master V" control unit offers the highest possible computing capacity to accelerate data processing, supporting the integration of future auxiliary systems and semi-automated process applications; the cranes are also equipped with the Litronic control system.

The two cranes are connected to the vessel's power management system, allowing the cranes' energy requirements to be coordinated with other onboard electrical demands; energy recovered by certain crane functions during operation can be fed back into the ship's grid, stored, and reused. Liebherr Management Board member Patricia Rüf named the vessel during the handover ceremony, and the ship bears her name.

Martin Harren stated that the Orca class is designed for heavy-lift shipping over the next 30 years, offering the flexibility, efficiency, and performance required for customers' evolving projects; naming the vessel Patricia reflects the close relationship between the two companies.

When the MV Patricia departed Rostock, it carried a Liebherr LHM 800 mobile harbor crane destined for Luanda, Angola, as well as an LPS 550 gantry crane destined for Casablanca, Morocco.

Headquartered in Hamburg, SAL operates in project cargo and multipurpose shipping, liner services, bulk, and offshore; together with SAL Intermarine, it operates around 80 multipurpose and heavy-lift vessels with a total lifting capacity of 2,000 tons and employs more than 2,200 staff across 28 offices in 26 countries.
