Technip Energies Obtains Global Exclusive Licensing Rights for SABIC's Low-Density Polyethylene CTR Technology

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 21, Technip Energies and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) signed an exclusive licensing cooperation agreement. Under the agreement, Technip Energies will serve as the global licensor of SABIC's Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Clean Tubular Reactor (CTR®) technology, responsible for licensing and deploying the technology in markets worldwide. This agreement pertains to the expansion of technology licensing rights and engineering implementation capabilities, and does not involve an investment decision or EPC award for any specific new LDPE plant.

Technip Energies' involvement in the CTR® technology system dates back to 1996, and it has since continuously undertaken basic design, engineering, construction, and commissioning work for related units. This agreement further extends its role to the global licensing side, enabling it to offer CTR® technology licenses in subsequent LDPE projects and to participate in project implementation by combining its engineering capabilities in high-pressure LDPE plant design, equipment manufacturing, and project execution.

CTR® technology is used for high-pressure low-density polyethylene production. SABIC's existing product documentation shows that some of its LDPE tubular grades are produced using Clean Tubular Reactor technology, including products such as 2008N0 and 2308N0. The related products cover application areas including masterbatch, compounding, and foaming.

The boundaries of responsibility in this cooperation have been clearly defined: SABIC retains ownership of the CTR® technology, while Technip Energies assumes the global licensing role for the technology and, leveraging its polyolefin engineering capabilities, provides design, equipment manufacturing, and engineering execution support for high-pressure LDPE projects using the CTR® route. The two parties have not yet disclosed the licensing agreement amount, authorization term, minimum licensing quantity, or the first new commercial project.

Technip Energies' existing business covers polyolefin plant engineering and high-pressure LDPE process implementation. Following the signing of this agreement, it can subsequently undertake technology licensing, basic design, equipment manufacturing, and engineering implementation work in new or expanded LDPE projects adopting CTR® technology worldwide.
