India's Premier Energies Commissions 7GW Solar Cell Factory

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 21, Indian photovoltaic manufacturer Premier Energies put into operation its 7GW N-type TOPCon G12R solar cell manufacturing facility in Naidupeta, Andhra Pradesh, and commenced trial production on the line. With the release of the new capacity, the company's solar cell manufacturing capacity increased from 3.6GW to 10.6GW. The factory covers approximately 101 acres, with capital expenditure of approximately INR 32.93 billion, and the project was completed on schedule and within budget.

The new factory adopts N-type TOPCon G12R cell technology, with a designed production capacity of approximately 88,000 solar cells per hour. The production line is equipped with automated material handling, packaging, and production control systems, and uses digital systems and artificial intelligence for equipment operation analysis and process control. After the production line completes ramp-up and enters stable operation, the company's target average cell conversion efficiency is approximately 25.8%, and the production facility is also designed to accommodate future upgrades to next-generation TOPCon+ technology.

Premier Energies has previously adjusted the construction scale of its Naidupeta photovoltaic manufacturing base on multiple occasions. According to the company's Q4 FY2026 investor materials, the base's 7GW cell capacity was advanced in phases, of which 4.8GW was originally planned for completion in June 2026, and the remaining 2.2GW in September. At that time, civil construction of the plant was already complete, and major production equipment had arrived on site and was in the installation stage. The commissioning of this 7GW factory completes this round of solar cell capacity expansion.

The Naidupeta base also hosts Premier Energies' manufacturing projects extending into the wafer and ingot segments. The company is building 10GW of ingot and wafer capacity locally, of which the first phase of 5GW is planned for completion in December 2027, and the second phase of 5GW is planned for completion in December 2028. Previously, the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation allocated approximately 269.71 acres of land for the company in the Naidupeta Industrial Park for the construction of solar cell as well as ingot and wafer-related manufacturing facilities.

In addition to photovoltaic manufacturing, Premier Energies is executing a three-year capital expenditure plan of approximately INR 125 billion, covering solar manufacturing, ingots and wafers, battery energy storage, inverters, and transformers. Among these, the company is collaborating with Germany's RCT Solutions to advance a 12GWh battery energy storage manufacturing project, with the first phase of 6GWh capacity planned to commence production in June 2027.
