en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru (ProInversión) and Shougang Hierro Perú signed an agreement to remove obstacles to land delivery for the new San Juan de Marcona port project. Under the agreement, Shougang Hierro Perú undertakes not to assert rights related to its mining concession within the project area, while confirming that the project land remains owned by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru. Following the signing of the agreement, the project can proceed with formal land delivery and resume implementation of the concession contract. The port project involves a planned investment of approximately US$404.8 million.

The project concession contract was signed on March 31 of this year by ProInversión and San Juan Port S.A., but because the land in the project area could not be delivered as planned, the contract term was suspended starting April 16. The agreement resolves precisely the conflict over land ownership and mining concession rights. Subsequently, the government will complete the transfer of land to the concessionaire and advance engineering design approval and construction preparation.

The new San Juan de Marcona port is located in San Juan Bay, Marcona District, Ica Region, with a 30-year concession term covering design, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and final transfer. The first phase of the project involves a planned investment of more than US$271 million, mainly for the construction of wharves, berths, port access connections, storage areas, shiploading systems, and port equipment. The overall project plan includes two wharves and three berths, with capabilities for bulk cargo, general cargo, and container operations.

The port mainly serves mining logistics in southern Peru and is planned to handle iron ore, copper concentrate, and equipment and materials related to mine development. Among these, the Pampa de Pongo iron ore project is listed as one of the main potential cargo sources. The port's planned area of influence covers 5 regions—Ica, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Apurímac, and Cusco—encompassing 29 provinces and 280 districts.
