Pile Foundation and Sheet Pile Construction Begins at the Contrecœur Container Terminal in Montreal, Canada

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 25, the new Contrecœur container terminal project at the Port of Montreal in Canada began the installation of the remaining steel pipe piles and sheet piles as scheduled, marking the entry of the project's marine works into the construction phase of the terminal's main foundation structure. Prior to this, the project completed the installation of a support pile for the future ice barrier structure at the western end of the construction trestle on September 22, and steel casing piles have been arriving at the site successively since August 17.

This round of construction is part of Phase 2 of the Contrecœur port expansion project. The Montreal Port Authority officially launched the marine works on August 14, with the scope of construction including the construction trestle, the main terminal, and related maritime infrastructure. A large crawler crane with a lifting capacity of 300 tonnes is deployed on site, primarily undertaking the lifting of steel pipe piles and sheet piles.

To support the construction of the terminal foundation structure, the project site completed the transport of 229 anchor rods, each approximately 18 meters in length, from September 14 to 18; vertical drainage facility construction continued from September 19 to 20. These operations, together with the installation of steel piles and sheet piles, constitute the current marine structural construction work of the terminal.

The Contrecœur project is the Port of Montreal expansion project, and subsequent land-side works and dredging construction will also be advanced. The Port Authority's current schedule shows that the land-side works are planned to commence as early as 2027, the dredging works are planned to begin in the fall of 2027, and the entire new container terminal is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2030.

The project previously signed a joint development agreement with DP World in September 2025, and in 2026 will continue to complete the terminal design as well as the construction and operation agreements with DP World. The port's marine works design involves Pomerleau and Aecon.
