Port Everett, USA, Launches 134,000 m³ Channel Dredging Project

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Seattle District confirmed that maintenance dredging of the federal navigation channel at Port Everett and the Snohomish River in Washington State has begun. The project plans to remove approximately 175,000 cubic yards (about 134,000 cubic meters) of sediment. American Construction of the United States has been awarded the contract and will use clamshell dredges and bottom-dump barges, with in-water work scheduled for completion no later than February 14, 2027.
This round of dredging starts first at the lower Snohomish River settling basin, with the work area covering Port Everett and the federal navigation channel at the river mouth. Construction vessels will load sediment into bottom-dump barges, which will primarily transport it to designated waters at Port Gardner for disposal, with Elliott Bay as the alternate disposal site. According to records on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project information platform, the contractor began on-site dredging operations on October 17.
The project will operate continuously 24 hours a day, with concentrated construction expected to last about 60 days. During construction, the federal navigation channel will remain open to vessel traffic, but clamshell dredges and transport barges will be operating in the channel and designated dredged material disposal waters. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requires fishing vessels and recreational boats to maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from the construction channel and disposal areas, and to avoid operating equipment and vessel transit paths.
The procurement number for this project is W912DW26BA006. According to previously published procurement materials, the project uses mechanical clamshell dredging, with an estimated procurement-stage value of USD 1 million to 5 million, and American Construction was ultimately awarded the construction task. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will oversee implementation of this round of maintenance dredging.
