en.Wedoany.com Reported - Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir inspected the expansion project of Arish seaport in North Sinai Governorate. The port is the only Mediterranean seaport in North Sinai, and the first phase of its offshore works has been officially completed.

During his inspection of the construction site and the newly completed maritime infrastructure, Wazir said that the Arish seaport expansion is of strategic national importance to Egypt, and that "the expansion will support industrial and agricultural development in Sinai, increase exports, and improve access to international markets."

As for the completed first phase, the offshore works include a 1,250-meter-long main breakwater to protect vessels entering the port; a 250-meter-long Sinai quay; and a 915-meter-long Tahya Misr quay. In addition, a 1,000-meter-long dedicated tourism quay has also been completed to attract maritime tourists.

Wazir explained that after the expansion is completed, Arish seaport will be able to handle more goods from Sinai, including cement, sand, salt, and marble, while supporting the operation of industrial and agricultural zones and creating jobs in North Sinai.

Subsequent works are underway. At present, construction of the necessary administrative and service facilities is 50% complete; the second phase, covering the eastern basin, is 33.6% complete. Further ahead, the port will add 1,908 meters of quays and more breakwaters, and will be equipped with four large cement silos with a total capacity of 40,000 tons, specifically to handle heavy industry output and support exports to international markets.

At the national level, Wazir positioned Arish seaport as a fundamental pillar of the Arish-Taba logistics corridor. The corridor connects the Mediterranean with Taba Port on the Gulf of Aqaba and runs directly through the industrial zone in central Sinai. It is also one of eight major logistics corridors currently being developed in Egypt, with the goal of linking industrial, agricultural, and mining areas with seaports, dry ports, and logistics centers.

To support this layout, Egypt also plans to build a 12-kilometer railway link connecting Arish Port with the Bir Al-Abd-Arish-Taba railway line, integrating this maritime hub into Egypt's broader railway network.
