Kenya's Devki Launches Construction of KSh 50 Billion Kitui Cement Plant

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 25, Kenya's Devki Group launched the construction of the Ngaaie cement plant in Kitui County, with a project investment of approximately KSh 50 billion, located in the Mwingi North area. The project will utilize local limestone resources to build cement and clinker production facilities, and is scheduled to commence operations in mid-2027.

The project is positioned as the first cement manufacturing facility in Kitui County. Public project information shows that the plant is planned to have an annual clinker production capacity of approximately 3 million tonnes. The project is funded entirely by Devki Group. Civil works have already commenced, and the construction phase is expected to employ approximately 1,200 local personnel.

The Ngaaie project site relies on local limestone deposits in Mwingi North. Devki's National Cement existing operations already cover the production of cement, clinker, and paving bricks, and its existing clinker manufacturing system in Kenya includes production bases such as Merueshi. Once the new project is completed, it will further increase the Group's local clinker and cement production capacity in Kenya.

Devki disclosed that the plant is scheduled to complete construction and enter the operational phase in mid-2027. In addition to the main production facilities, site construction and supporting preparations are currently underway simultaneously. Subsequent construction will focus on the clinker production line, cement production facilities, and related plant infrastructure.

Devki has continued to expand its cement and clinker production capacity in Kenya in recent years. The Kenyan Presidency previously disclosed that Devki's National Cement and Cemtech currently have a combined annual clinker output of approximately 6 million tonnes; after the Cemtech project was commissioned, the Group's annual clinker production capacity was further increased. The Kitui project will become another large-scale cement manufacturing base for the company.
