Shuntai's $120 Million Zimbabwe Cement Plant to Complete Equipment Installation in October

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 23, Shuntai Investments announced the latest construction plan for its Chegutu cement plant in Zimbabwe. The project involves a total investment of approximately $120 million, with the cement production line designed for an annual capacity of 800,000 tons. Mechanical equipment installation is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed by October 20, followed by cable laying, wiring, grounding, and integrated system commissioning, with the related commissioning work planned for completion by mid-November.

The civil engineering works for the Chegutu cement production line had previously been largely completed, and the current construction focus is on production equipment, electrical systems, and supporting energy facilities. The project is simultaneously building an 88 kV power transmission line from Norton to Chegutu, which is planned for completion by October 20 in parallel with the mechanical installation of the cement production line, providing power access conditions for subsequent equipment commissioning and production operations.

The project also plans to build a 50 MW thermal power facility, with the related design work currently underway. In addition to the cement production line, the plant site also includes a supporting 400,000-ton-per-year lime production line, which has completed its design and begun equipment transportation, with civil engineering construction starting on September 1. The cement, lime, power, and limestone mining facilities will together form the Phase I construction content of the Chegutu production base.

Shuntai Investments had previously carried out equipment installation and trial production preparations at the Chegutu project. The latest construction schedule further details the milestones before commissioning: after the mechanical installation of the cement line is completed, it will successively enter the electrical construction, system integration commissioning, and production preparation stages. After the project is put into operation, the designed annual cement production capacity of the Chegutu base will be 800,000 tons.

Shuntai Investments also plans to launch the next phase of construction in January 2027, including the Zvishavane clinker production project in Zimbabwe, and plans cement grinding facilities in Harare, Bulawayo, and Mutare. Among these, the Zvishavane project has previously been confirmed to include a 6,000-ton-per-day clinker production line.
