Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 5, Planning consultancy Lanpro has received acceptance for a Development Consent Order (DCO) application submitted on behalf of Island Green Power (IGP) for the proposed Green Hill Solar Farm in the United Kingdom. The project, classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), is set to be developed to the west and south of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, and north of Milton Keynes.

The Green Hill Solar Farm is designed to generate up to 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity, which is estimated to supply power to approximately 115,000 homes. Acceptance of the DCO marks a key milestone, confirming that the application has met the necessary standards and can now proceed to the examination phase.

The project area covers about 550 hectares designated for solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and supporting infrastructure. Additionally, around 190 hectares have been allocated for environmental mitigation and biodiversity enhancement.

Tom Pike, Director of Planning at Lanpro, stated: “We are delighted that the Green Hill Solar Farm has been accepted by the Planning Inspectorate for examination. This is a crucial milestone and reflects the high quality and robustness of the application submitted by Lanpro on behalf of Island Green Power. The scale and ambition of this scheme underlines the vital role solar energy will play in achieving the UK’s net zero targets. Lanpro is proud to be continuing a successful partnership with IGP by supporting in the delivery of yet another nationally significant infrastructure project. The scheme will not only contribute a substantial new source of clean energy, but it will also integrate extensive measures for environmental enhancement and biodiversity gain across the site.”

Eve Browning, Head of UK Projects at Island Green Power, added: “Acceptance is an important milestone for Green Hill, and reflects the hard work of the project team, of which Lanpro has been a key component. We look forward to continuing the partnership as we take the Green Hill proposal through examination.”

The acceptance of the DCO application indicates progress in the UK’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy capacity. The Green Hill Solar Farm, once operational, is expected to contribute significantly to the country's clean energy goals while delivering ecological benefits through habitat creation and landscape improvements.

Lanpro and IGP will continue to work closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders as the project moves into the examination stage, which will involve detailed reviews of its environmental and technical documentation. The initiative reflects the increasing role of large-scale solar infrastructure in the UK’s efforts toward energy transition and environmental sustainability.
