en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 22, Tata Steel Netherlands and metal packaging manufacturer Envases Europe announced a strategic partnership to incorporate Carbon Lite low-carbon packaging steel, using a mass balance accounting mechanism, into their packaging product supply system, providing food, beverage and other industry customers with low-carbon packaging materials and third-party verified carbon emission reduction data. The associated emission reductions derive from decarbonization measures implemented in the packaging steel production process at Tata Steel Netherlands' IJmuiden steel plant.

Under the partnership arrangement, the CO₂e emission reductions corresponding to Carbon Lite steel are independently verified by international certification body DNV and then allocated to the corresponding quantity of packaging steel products through a mass balance accounting system. Envases Europe is responsible for passing on the relevant emission reduction claims to downstream fillers and brand manufacturers for their Scope 3 supply chain emissions accounting in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

The production process emission reduction measures at Tata Steel Netherlands' IJmuiden plant form the basis for the carbon emission reduction accounting of the Carbon Lite products. The two parties will allocate the corresponding emission reduction claims based on the actual quantity of steel supplied and incorporate product carbon emission data into steel procurement and packaging manufacturing supply chain management. Carbon Lite steel retains the physical properties of the original packaging steel products, and the associated carbon emission reduction data are managed through independent verification and a certified accounting system.
