en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, the Eurasian Development Bank and Kazakhstan's AKASHI Data Center PLC signed a financing agreement to provide up to $31.2 million for the construction of a data center in the capital city of Astana. The project has a planned total investment of approximately $354 million, with an overall designed capacity of 100 MW. The first phase will have a scale of approximately 10 MW and is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2027. This also marks the first time the Eurasian Development Bank has included a data center construction project in its investment portfolio.

The Akashi data center campus covers an area of more than 11 hectares, with planned building and infrastructure area of approximately 55,000 square meters. Once fully completed, it will be able to accommodate up to 4,224 server racks. The campus will be built in phases with four independent data center modules, along with dedicated power and communications infrastructure. Among them, Module 4 is specifically designed for artificial intelligence computing and high-performance computing businesses, with a designed IT load capacity of up to 30 MW. It will be equipped with a liquid cooling system to support high-density server deployment.

The first phase, the DC-1 module, has a designed IT load capacity of 5.28 MW, and its design documents have been awarded Tier IV design certification by the international data center certification body Uptime Institute. According to the construction plan, the main power equipment of the campus's supporting 110/10 kV substation has already been installed, the dedicated power supply line has been connected to the site, and backup power facilities such as uninterruptible power supplies and diesel generators have been configured. The main construction work of the first phase is entering its final stage, and subsequent work will focus on the installation of mechanical and electrical systems.

Communications access adopts a carrier-neutral model, with four independent fiber optic access points planned on the campus, capable of connecting to domestic and international telecommunications carriers in Kazakhstan. Customers can choose network service providers and communication lines according to their business needs. The project is intended to provide server colocation, data storage, and computing infrastructure services to financial institutions, cloud service providers, telecommunications carriers, and artificial intelligence enterprises.
