en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, Australian data center operator AirTrunk secured an AUD 4.25 billion green loan to continue expanding its SYD3 hyperscale data center campus in Western Sydney, New South Wales. The project is planned for a total capacity of approximately 400 MW on an 8.3-hectare site, encompassing 42 data halls and approximately 70,000 square meters of technical space. Expansion work is currently underway, with A W Edwards responsible for construction, and completion is expected by mid-2028.

The financing involved 32 Australian and international financial institutions, with 14 banks underwriting the loan, including BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, ING, Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, National Australia Bank, and HSBC. Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, HSBC, and United Overseas Bank served as green loan coordinators.

The SYD3 expansion involves civil works, prefabricated components, steel structures, and electrical and mechanical installations. AirTrunk has established an approximately 25,000-square-meter equipment staging and pre-commissioning area in Western Sydney for the storage, assembly, and pre-operational testing of critical data center equipment. The project also uses specially chartered transport vessels to organize equipment transport through Port Botany and Port Kembla in Sydney.

The project plans to use low-carbon steel and concrete and has set a target of diverting at least 90% of non-hazardous construction waste from landfill. Construction is expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs in construction, engineering, logistics, and safety management.

Following this financing round, AirTrunk's total committed debt financing globally has reached approximately AUD 38.4 billion, of which more than AUD 19.8 billion is for Australian projects. The company operates five data center campuses in Australia with a total capacity exceeding 1.2 GW.
