en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, German internet exchange operator DE-CIX and Thailand's International Gateway Company (IGC) established a joint venture, DE-CIX Thailand, headquartered in Bangkok, responsible for building and operating a new regional internet exchange center, DE-CIX Bangkok. The center is scheduled to enter service in mid-2027 and will connect to DE-CIX's existing Southeast Asia interconnection platform, expanding its regional service coverage to a seventh city market and enabling direct interconnection between Bangkok and internet exchange centers in five Southeast Asian cities.

The new exchange center is planned to be deployed across multiple existing data centers in Bangkok and surrounding areas, adopting a cross-facility distributed interconnection architecture. According to the plan, network operators connected to the Bangkok exchange center will be able to conduct direct network peering with DE-CIX exchange centers in Singapore, Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Jakarta (Indonesia) through a unified regional interconnection platform.

The two parties have clearly defined the division of responsibilities. DE-CIX is responsible for bringing its regional network interconnection platform and global exchange center ecosystem to Thailand, while IGC will utilize its existing domestic and cross-border terrestrial communication networks to provide access lines for carriers in Thailand and neighboring countries, and will be responsible for connection services and agency sales for customers in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.

IGC's parent company, ALT Group, owns a fiber network spanning over 12,000 kilometers across Thailand and has network interconnection interfaces at 12 border crossings, connecting 42 telecom operators in Thailand and neighboring countries. Its network also covers more than 10 data centers in Thailand and holds open access licenses involving 5 submarine cable landing stations. The existing terrestrial and cross-border fiber resources will be used for customer access and regional network extension for the Bangkok exchange center.

According to the network architecture announced by both parties, DE-CIX Bangkok will also connect to DE-CIX's global backbone interconnection system. The company's existing Southeast Asia platform covers Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia, with nearly 150 networks connected and in the process of connecting; its global interconnection ecosystem covers more than 4,600 networks. Once the Bangkok node is completed, it will jointly provide cross-market network interconnection services with existing regional exchange centers.

The joint venture was established by both parties, and the planned service launch time for the Bangkok internet exchange center is mid-2027. Subsequent deployment will focus on existing data center access points, cross-border communication lines, and the regional interconnection platform.
