en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 29, US low-carbon cement manufacturer Fortera and technology company Meta confirmed the signing of a multi-year Environmental Attribute Certificate (EAC) purchase agreement covering the environmental attributes associated with approximately 200,000 tons of ReAct low-carbon cement. The agreement will provide long-term revenue support for Fortera's planned low-carbon cement plant in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, which is designed to produce 300,000 tons per year, and will advance subsequent financing and commercial construction of the project.

Under the agreement, Meta is purchasing environmental attribute certificates corresponding to Fortera's low-carbon cement production, while retaining the option to use the associated cement directly in its own construction projects. The two parties have also agreed that the scale of certificate purchases and the term of cooperation may be further expanded in the future. Fortera will use this multi-year purchase arrangement to support financing of new production facilities, including the commercial-scale plant under development in Missouri.

The Ste. Genevieve project is being developed by Fortera in partnership with Mississippi Lime Company, and plans to use carbon dioxide emitted from the latter's existing lime production facilities to manufacture ReAct low-carbon cement. The plant employs Fortera's ReCarb carbon mineralization technology to convert captured carbon dioxide into raw material for cement production. Fortera states that cement produced through this process can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 70% compared with ordinary Portland cement, and that the product has completed third-party testing and meets relevant ASTM standards for concrete applications.

The plant site is located along the Mississippi River, enabling the use of existing industrial facilities and transportation networks to supply the US Midwest building materials market. Fortera currently operates a ReAct cement plant in Redding, California, with a designed annual capacity of 15,000 tons, while the Missouri project aims to scale the technology to commercial-scale production.
