Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Devki's KES 70 Billion Cement Plant in Kenya

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, Kenya's Devki Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for its cement and clinker production plant in the Ngaae area of Mwingi North, Kitui County, with Kenyan President William Ruto in attendance. The project represents an investment of KES 70 billion and is being developed by the group's subsidiary National Cement Company, with a planned annual clinker production capacity of 3 million tonnes. It is expected to commence operations between mid-2027 and August 2027. Construction at the site had already begun prior to the ceremony, which further confirmed the investment scale and plant implementation arrangements.

The plant is located near limestone resource areas in the Ngaae region and will use local limestone to produce clinker and cement. Upon completion, Devki Group's total clinker production capacity is expected to increase to 9.2 million tonnes per year. The plant is also the first cement manufacturing project in Kitui County. Site development and civil construction are already underway, with on-site work covering plant infrastructure, production facility foundations, and storage facilities.

Prior to the groundbreaking ceremony, construction personnel and engineering machinery had already been mobilized at the project site. Narendra Raval, Executive Chairman of Devki Group, stated at the October 27 event that approximately 4,000 Kenyan employees have been hired at the project construction site. According to the implementation schedule published by the developer, the plant is expected to complete construction and commence production between mid-2027 and August 2027, and plans to provide approximately 3,000 permanent jobs once fully operational.
