en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, French building materials group Saint-Gobain announced that its second float glass production line in Ain Sokhna, Egypt, was officially commissioned. The production line is operated by a joint venture formed by Saint-Gobain and Turkish glass manufacturer Şişecam. With the new line in operation, the total production capacity of the Ain Sokhna glass production base has doubled. The two companies will leverage local production facilities to expand the supply of flat glass for construction.

The Ain Sokhna base is located in Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone, near Ain Sokhna Port, and mainly produces float glass for the construction and automotive industries. The new production line, together with the existing manufacturing facilities, forms the local glass production base, with products supplying both the Egyptian domestic market and overseas customers. This capacity expansion represents additional production capacity at an existing plant rather than the construction of a new independent glass manufacturing base.

Saint-Gobain also disclosed during the same period that its new gypsum board plant in Sadat City, Egypt, is scheduled to start production in November 2026. The project is operated by a joint venture formed by Saint-Gobain and Turkish company Dalsan and will complement the group's existing gypsum production lines, forming a production base covering gypsum processing and gypsum board manufacturing. The glass production line has now been commissioned, while the gypsum board plant is at the planned start-up stage, with the two projects progressing at different paces.

Saint-Gobain entered the Egyptian market in 2006 and currently operates 4 major manufacturing bases in the country, employing approximately 900 people with annual revenue of about €150 million. The group's product business in Egypt covers glass, gypsum and construction chemicals. With the commissioning of the second float glass production line and the start-up of the new gypsum board plant, the local building materials production system will be further expanded.
