en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 20, Swiss climate tech company Timber Carbon announced the launch of an artificial intelligence carbon removal management platform for the building sector. By automatically identifying timber usage in buildings, calculating long-term carbon storage, and connecting to carbon credit trading markets, the platform converts carbon storage data from bio-based building materials into verifiable carbon removal assets. After approximately three years of development, the platform currently covers more than 90 buildings in markets including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with the related timber structures having cumulatively stored approximately 72,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

The platform employs AI-driven monitoring, reporting, and verification technology to extract timber usage data from building information models, bills of materials, and delivery notes, and combines this with emissions from material production and construction phases to calculate net carbon removal in building structures. The system covers project registration, carbon storage calculation, third-party verification, carbon credit registration, and subsequent transaction management.

Under Timber Carbon's published methodology, each building carbon removal credit represents 1 tonne of carbon dioxide verified as stored long-term in a building's load-bearing structure. Carbon credits are issued after building completion and material verification, and the platform also provides ongoing project monitoring, credit tracking, and data integration for real estate asset management.

The existing building portfolio is primarily located in German-speaking regions and includes building projects using engineered timber and other bio-based materials. The company also estimates that the related projects have additionally avoided approximately 65,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions by substituting for some conventional high-emission building materials. This emissions reduction figure and the 72,000 tonnes of carbon storage in building materials are accounted for separately and are not the same statistical indicator.

Timber Carbon simultaneously announced the launch of its first financing round, planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, with proceeds mainly intended for international market expansion and platform business development. As of this announcement, the company has not disclosed the financing amount, investing institutions, actual carbon credit transaction volume, or platform commercial contract value.
