en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 30, StormGeo, a maritime technology company under Sweden's Alfa Laval, completed the acquisition of Portchain, a Danish Copenhagen-based berth alignment software provider. Portchain will operate as an independent company under StormGeo for the next few years before being fully integrated. StormGeo made clear that services for existing Portchain customers will not be interrupted, and the combined products will be offered through StormGeo's channels.

Portchain's core assets are its port network and two products. Portchain Network currently connects shipping companies with more than 200 container terminals, covering over 40% of global container terminal throughput capacity. Portchain Connect is used to exchange vessel schedules and cargo volume data between shipping companies and terminals, converting traditional email and phone communications into a digital berth alignment process; Portchain Quay is used for berth, quay crane and manpower planning in a shared real-time environment.

StormGeo's voyage intelligence platform provides voyage optimization, vessel performance insights and route guidance. The logic behind the acquisition is to directly link route and speed decisions with terminal berth availability: when a terminal's expected berthing time changes, vessels still at sea can adjust their speed so that the estimated time of arrival (ETA) and estimated time of berthing (ETB) match more precisely, reducing fuel consumption and emissions from waiting for berths after arrival.

The closing date of this acquisition was October 30. After the acquisition is completed, Portchain will operate as an independent company under StormGeo for the next few years, and its berth alignment software will be incorporated into StormGeo's voyage intelligence business. The combined products will be offered through StormGeo's channels, after which Portchain will be fully integrated into StormGeo.
