Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 28, DayOne Data Centers has started construction on its first 20MW data center at 21 Jalan Buroh, Singapore. Designed to support AI workloads and powered by up to 100% renewable energy, the facility will be the first in Singapore to test on-site Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) power generation, advancing hydrogen-based energy solutions. The first phase is expected to be operational by 2026.

The project is supported by a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement with Sembcorp Power Pte Ltd, ensuring renewable energy through locally sourced or grid-connected renewable energy certificates. DayOne has also partnered with the National University of Singapore (NUS) under the Sustainable Tropical Data Center Testbed Phase 2.0 (STDCT 2.0) to research advanced cooling and energy-efficient technologies for tropical climates. The facility, covering 40,000 square meters, will feature hybrid air and liquid cooling systems to support high-density GPU operations for AI and cloud computing.

Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne, stated: “This facility marks our commitment to Singapore as both home base and regional hub while highlighting our long-term vision to power Southeast Asia’s digital transformation with green infrastructure.” Aileen Chia, Deputy Chief Executive of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), said: “Data center operators like DayOne play an important role in advancing energy efficiency and green energy solutions in support of our digital economy and the sustainable growth of data centers in Singapore.”

Seah Yueh Chinn, Vice President of Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), noted: “This new facility will enhance Singapore’s competitiveness by providing access to compute-intensive technologies like AI.” Koh Chiap Khiong, President & CEO of Gas and Related Services at Sembcorp, added: “Our collaboration with DayOne reflects this commitment to powering the next generation of digital infrastructure with clean, future-ready solutions.” Professor Lee Poh Seng from NUS emphasized: “Through the Sustainable Tropical Data Center Testbed 2.0, we are field testing breakthroughs to demonstrate sustainability and high performance can go hand in hand.”

The facility aligns with Singapore’s goals to expand data center capacity and support AI innovation. It will pursue LEED Platinum and BCA Green Mark Platinum (GMDC:2024) certifications, reflecting high environmental standards. The groundbreaking was attended by leaders from IMDA, DISG, JTC Corporation, Sembcorp, and NUS, showcasing strong collaboration. The project strengthens DayOne’s efforts to build sustainable digital infrastructure across the Singapore-Johor-Riau Islands region.
