en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has deployed satellite-driven free public Wi-Fi services at Pasig Supermarket, aiming to enhance the reliability of digital transactions for stall owners and customers in the area.

The collaborative project was launched on June 16, with participants including the DICT, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Pasig City Government, and the BDO Foundation.
The parties held a ceremony at the temporary city hall in Rosario, Pasig City, to sign a memorandum of understanding on financial education and digital connectivity.
The DICT stated that Pasig Supermarket is the first market in the city equipped with the Paleng-QR Ph Plus free public Wi-Fi service, deploying one Starlink satellite internet unit and four wireless access points within the market.
The initiative aims to address connectivity issues that may disrupt QR code payment transactions, a problem particularly prominent in public markets where digital transactions are increasingly prevalent.
Attendees at the signing ceremony included Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Pasig City Administrator Jeronimo Manzanero, BDO Foundation Chairman Mario Deriquito, and BDO Foundation Trustee Evelyn Salagubang.
After the ceremony, officials visited the market to inspect the newly deployed connectivity infrastructure and tested QR code payment transactions using the free Wi-Fi network.
The DICT stated that during the demonstration, stall owners successfully received QR code payments, highlighting the role of reliable internet access in supporting cashless transactions.
Henry Aguda said the project is expected to be replicated in other locations. Aguda stated: "This is the first of many projects. We envision that more public markets, transport hubs, and community spaces nationwide will benefit from free and reliable connectivity. Through these efforts, we bring opportunities closer to the people, ensuring that no Filipino is left behind in the digital age."
